March Madness

Reading from Monday March 12, 2012 yoga class

The following was written by my friend and fellow yoga teacher, Bev Hurt.  It is absolutely FABULOUS.  For me personally, I am "mad" about yoga and "mad" about college basketball.  I will be at the KFC Yum Center on Thursday and Saturday participating in the "madness."  Go U of L.   Thank you Bev for allowing me to use your wonderful piece as my reading for today.  I just love you dearly.

"March Madness is certainly the correct term to describe the atmosphere in River City these days.  People have gone "mad" over basketball.  I will be the first to admit I do not get it.  What causes a person to drive to Lexington for a 9 p.m. Tuesday night game when they have to be at work at 7 a.m. the next morning?  While I think it is wonderful to have a hobby or be passionate about something one loves these fans take devotion to a whole new level.  I am always scratching my head wondering what motivates them.

Then I remember most people think I am "mad" for getting up most mornings in order to be at a yoga class at 6 a.m.  I can not explain it but yoga touches my spirit and to say I am passionate about it is an understatement.  I am about yoga like many of my friends and family are about UK or UL basketball.

I have friends who are "mad" about their grandkids, "mad" about their pets, "mad" about their music, "mad" about cooking, "mad" about karaoke, or a variety of other interests which bring people to the "madness" level.

I am coming to see the "madness" may bring with it some level of anxiety but most of the time it is a venue of pure delight or excitement.  When watching my friends indulge in their "madness" I usually get to witness them engaged in an activity which brings them joy.  I know when I am in the middle of my "madness" I am engaged.  I feel alive.  I am living in the moment.  Actually the "madness" is probably what helps keep most of us sane.  The "madness" makes the mundane bearable.  It gives us something to look forward to.  So may we all go a little "mad" from time to time."
