An amazing woman

Reading from Wednesday, September 4, 2013 yoga class

I watched a TEDtalk the other day with Diana Nyad, the courageously strong and inspiring 64 year old woman who just completed her swim from Cuba to Key West, Florida.  She gave this particular TEDtalk a month after her failed attempt in 2011 to do this swim because of jellyfish(lots of them) who stung her and weaken her body.  Diana is bigger than life... a great speaker and probably one of the most courageous woman I have ever seen or read about.  I cried as I watched it because her determination and courage SO inspire me.

Then I watched the 3 minute video that shows her completing her swim... coming to shore to the roar of the crowd.  She stood up, and fell back down, but was determined to walk out of the water on her own and onto the beach... wobbly, face swollen, ... and then finally into the arms of one of her supporting crew.  You should find the video and watch it... inspirational.

So... after she completed the more than 110 mile swim in 53 non-stop hours, she is quoted as saying: "We should never, ever give up...you never are too old to chase your dreams."

One more which really touches my heart:

"I am stunned...at how fast it all flies by.  We blink and another decade passes.  I don't want to reach the end of my life and regret not having given my days everything in me to make them worthwhile."

Congratulations, Diana Nyad!!!   You are an amazing woman.
