Reading from Wednesday, July 3, 2013 yoga class
One of the ladies that comes to my class, Ann, wrote me an email about a good lunchroom story her husband told her... Here's part of the email:
"Jon told me one of his good lunchroom stories the other day. He said that in response to some comment, another person had written "Namaste" on the lunchroom whiteboard. Jon asked his Indian colleague Krishna (LOVE THE NAME) what the word actually means. Krishna told him it is generally a greeting of respect that a student would say to a teacher, at least, this is the way people from Krishna's area use this greeting."
So... I found 2 other definitions for the word, Namaste:
"A traditional Sanskrit greeting... I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light and peace. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, we are one."
"Namaste is a Sanskrit greeting indicating reverence and honor and loosely translated means, "I honor the divine in you" or "I greet the light in you." This salutation brings forth feelings of respect, acceptance, and openness."
Thanks, Ann, for bringing up this subject.
On another note... The Dalai Lama turns 78 on July 6th!!! Here is a quote from him in honor of his birthday:
"There is only one important point you must keep in your mind and let it be your guide. No matter what people call you, you are just who you are. Keep to this truth. You must ask yourself how is it you want to live your life. We live and we die, this is the truth that we can only face alone. So consider carefully, what prevents you from living the way you want to live your life."
