Like a river flows

Reading from Tuesday, June 3, 2014 yoga class

From the book, "The Second Half of Life by Angeles Arrien

"If we commit to living 'like a river flows...carried by the surprise of its own unfolding' the gift of wisdom emerges and reveals itself. Once we make this commitment in our later years, we begin to see our lives in new ways and experience many insights, epiphanies and discoveries that renew and re-engage our curiosity.  Martha McCallum, 86 years old, described such an experience:

One morning I was sitting at my kitchen table, staring into space.  It was one of those windy days when the sun keeps coming out and going in.  All of a sudden, a sunbeam crossed my kitchen table and lit up my crystal saltshaker.  There were all kinds of colors and sparkles.  It was one of the most beautiful sights I'd ever seen.  But you know, that very same saltshaker had been on that kitchen table for over fifty years.  Surely there must have been other mornings when the sun crossed the table like that, but I was just too busy getting things done.  I wondered what else I'd missed.  I realized this was it, this was grace."

So... getting older... we all do it every day!!  It is all a matter of perspective.  I read today in the Courier Journal of a lady who is 91 yrs. old who lives in Charlotte North Carolina who ran a marathon in 7 hrs. 7 minutes and 42 seconds.  YAHOO... she was quoted as saying that: "I felt like a queen for the day."  We are ALL capable of so much more than we could possibly imagine.
