What are the people like?

Reading from Wednesday, September 3, 2014 yoga class

"Grandfather Page told a parable of a man coming to a ranch and inquiring of the old man on the porch, "What are the people like in your area?"  The old rancher asked him, "What were they like where you came from?"  The man answered that they were mean, sneaky and dishonest rascals.  My rancher answered, "That's what they are like here, too."  A while later, another man came along with the same question.  The old man asked him about the people in his last town.  He said, "They were great people, honest, kindhearted and high-spirited.  We had wonderful neighbors."  The rancher said, "That is what people are like here, too.  You'll have great neighbors in this town."  This may have been my first lesson in karma."

From the book, "Seeking Peace" by Mary Pipher
