Reading from Tuesday, August 25, 2015 yoga class
I have stacks on my desk of things to read for class. I generally speaking write down who said what, and what book, magazine, etc. I saw the piece in, BUT I didn't do it this time. So my apologies to not giving credit where credit is due.
How has yoga affected your life? One answer comes up consistently. Even though people have the same emotional triggers and reactions that they had before yoga, the recovery time is much faster. It's not that the jealousy, anger, impatience cease to exist when your button is pushed, but your ability to step back from it is much quicker. Love is greater than any obstacle; the obstacles don't disappear, they just don't consume you.
And the following is what I wrote down while listening to a dharma talk on the Mount Shasta website by a monk with a voice I could have listened to all day long:
We have to get fed up with ourselves to change! Our own habits are the source of all our suffering. If we want different results we have to change ourselves.
These two pieces really spoke to me this past week or so.
