The heart speaks

Reading from Tuesday, February 8, 2016 yoga class

I just finished a book entitled "The heart speaks: A cardiologist reveals the secret language of healing" by Dr. Mimi Guarneri.  It is on the reading list for the level II restorative training I will be taking in August 2016 with Judith Lasater.  Fabulously, wonderful book.  Basically the book is about how the heart heals, that the heart is more than just a pump.  What follows is from the chapter entitled Universal Heart.

"In the Far East, elephant trainers often secure a light tether--a simple length of rope--around a baby elephant's ankle to limit its range.  As the baby grows, the trainers regularly reinforce the boundary of this rope.  By the time the elephant is an adult, he has matured into a huge and powerful animal who has the strength to easily break this bond.  But by then he has grown so accustomed to being restrained that he has no conception of the strength he possesses to free himself.

As humans, we are also conditioned to live within a limited perception of our own consciousness and power.  We are taught by Western science to consider ourselves separate souls, bags of flesh containing glands and bones.  We are encouraged to believe that the mind, body, and spirit are split and fragmented, that if we can't quantify something, it's not real.

But what if we weren't really living in a world of division, separation, and alienation, but one of connection and interdependence?

What if we were all part of the same source and blueprint, woven together in an inherent unity that is infinite and enduring?  What if we knew scientifically that everything in the universe is eternal, alive and evolving?

What if consciousness isn't contained in the body, as the Western model claims, but the body is contained in consciousness?

This is what a convergence of groundbreaking research combining quantum mechanics, cellular memory, and nonlocal mind suggests.

Viewed through the lens of this new science, the heart is revealed as an organ of consciousness and memory that orchestrates an intricate symphony of data and energy and may be the seat of our souls."

I KNOW that the heart is the seat of our souls.
